Jesus said: "For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies” (Matthew 15:19). Only the Word of God can change the human heart. “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12). Gun laws don’t stop ”murders;” marriage licensing doesn’t stop “adulteries” or “fornications;” jails don’t prevent “thefts;” slander laws don’t stop “false witness;” and libel laws don’t end “blasphemies.” These deal with after the fact. Only converting the heart can stop these from being done. God’s commandments “are all summed up in this saying, namely, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself’" (Romans 13:9).
