The only verse many people accept is “God is love” (1 John 4:8). They think that means “God loves me regardless of how I live.” They could not be more wrong, for Jesus Christ also said, “He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him" (John 14:21). Sinners want God to love them as they are, but David said of God, “The boastful shall not stand in Your sight; You hate all workers of iniquity” (Psalm 5:4-5). God “desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:4); and “now commands all men everywhere to repent” (Acts 17:30). - February 17, 2020
